HAITI

The first Electricians without Borders trip was to Milot, Haiti in 2010. Working in partnership with the Crudem Foundation, EWB began the ongoing project of modernizing the power system for Hôpital Sacré Coeur (HSC).

 

Paying their own way, eight active and retired electricians from San Francisco’s IBEW Local 6 Union, spent two weeks in Milot for the first of several trips to update the electrical system that supports the hospital.

 

Working closely with local electricians and handymen, the American electricians replaced old generators with new state of the art models and replaced the hospital’s entire electrical distribution system.

 

Since that initial trip in 2010, combinations of the original six electricians and new volunteers have continued to work with the local work force on updating the electrical systems for the hospital. We continue to work with CRUDEM and HSC to update the hospital’s power systems which will soon encompass an increased reliance on more sustainable solar power.

In August of 2016 Jeff Rodriguez made a return trip to Port au Prince Haiti to help a local healthcare provider repair their existing solar equipment.

In November 2016 Project Hope was responding to the Hurricane that came through the southwestern part of Haiti.  There was anticipation of a cholera outbreak.  Sextant Foundation put together a design for a Cholera Treatment Center and we organized local labor and volunteers to build it.  We finished April 2017.
